Praised by NBC News Atlanta for bringing "a sense of humor with his baton" and commended by the Macon Telegraph as a "tasteful and innovative" conductor "well-grounded in the art of orchestral conducting," Dr. Gregory Pritchard has built a distinguished career defined by technical mastery, artistic versatility, and an exceptional rapport with musicians and audiences alike.

 

He currently serves as the Music Director of both the Gwinnett Symphony Orchestra and the Gwinnett Ballet Theatre, having previously spent five seasons as the Music Director of the Gainesville Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Pritchard’s podium experience spans symphonic masterworks, youth orchestras, and opera. As the former Music Director of the Opera Company of Mid-Michigan, he led acclaimed productions of La Bohème, Madama Butterfly, Don Giovanni, and Faust. His past leadership roles also include serving as Associate Conductor of the Kokomo Symphony Orchestra, Music Director of the Holland Area Youth Orchestra and the Gwinnett County Youth Symphony, and Assistant Conductor at the Music Festival of Arkansas and the Southeastern Music Center. Additionally, he has guest-conducted numerous ensembles across the United States and Europe, including the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, Macon Symphony, Georgia Philharmonic, and the Lake Charles Symphony.

A rare multi-instrumentalist, Dr. Pritchard has studied every instrument in the orchestra at some point in his career. He holds a Woodwind Specialist Performance Degree and has taught all five primary woodwinds—bassoon, saxophone, oboe, clarinet, and flute—at the collegiate level, while specializing in violin and viola as his primary string instruments. As an active orchestral musician, he has performed globally with ensembles such as the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Grand Rapids Symphony, Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Charleston Symphony and the Penang State Symphony in Malaysia. Spanning genres, his commercial performance highlights include performing with Josh Groban on The Oprah Winfrey Show and playing saxophone with The Temptations.

Dr. Pritchard holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Orchestral Conducting from Michigan State University, where he studied under Leon Gregorian, Catherine Comet, and Elizabeth Green, with additional training under legendary pedagogues Gustav Meier and Neeme Järvi. He attributes much of his unique musical sensitivity to his immersive training in the Musin tradition under Leonid Korchmar and Peter Gribanov in St. Petersburg, Russia. His global accolades include winning First Prize at both the International Conductors Workshop and Competition in Georgia and the Advanced Conducting Workshop in St. Petersburg. These victories led to guest conducting the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Congress Orchestra and making his Italian conducting debut with the Orchestra da Camera del Friuli Venezia Giulia. His historic honors also include being named the first-ever Fellowship Conductor of the Grand Rapids Symphony and performing a private concert for the Chancellor of Vienna while touring Europe with the Blue Lake International Youth Symphony.

Deeply committed to shaping the next generation of musicians, Dr. Pritchard is a veteran music educator with Gwinnett County Public Schools, making his Carnegie Hall conducting debut leading the Brookwood Philharmonic. Today, he serves as the Fine Arts Curriculum Lead at Gwinnett Online Campus, where he pioneered a comprehensive online music curriculum. Passing on his expertise to the global conducting community, Dr. Pritchard serves as the Artistic Director of the Adrian Gnam International Conductors Workshop and Competition. Through this elite program, he mentors dozens of rising conductors annually, guiding many who have gone on to lead premier global ensembles, including the New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, New Zealand Symphony, Detroit Symphony, and the Toronto Symphony.
